Hans Christian Andersen is known primarily for gentle children's fairy tales but he wrote travelogues as well as poetry and even science fiction. In this story, from 1852, Andersen looks ahead to when American's travel to 'Old Europe' on steam powered airplanes to visit the crumbling monuments. Maybe that century has just passed!
